Turkana is a nomadic community and due to constant mobility, nomadic pastoralists are likely not to have a place they would consider their permanent home.

Our mission is to nature: socially and economically empower local young people to spur the local development of the Turkana Community in Kenya.
Our vision is to make an enabling environment: so that young people can exploit their potential as well as take part in a more fundamental role in their personal growth and societal development.

 

The 'Turkana Community Foundation' is a registered charitable organization in Kenya under the Ministry of East Africa Community, Labour and Social Protection (EAC), Nairobi . The organization operates in the informal and rural settlements of Lodwar -Kanamkemer and was founded through the initiative of local young people in order to socially and economically empower local young people to encourage the local development, in Lodwar. The Constitution document objectives mention: to educate and sensitize in vocational and life skills, allowing them to start their own businesses and address social challenges in their community; on drugs, HIV; to favor access to education for orphans and marginalized youths (drop out); to be involved in community leadership. The 'Turkana Community Foundation' is apolitical and non religious; and rejects all form of discrimination (race, ethnic, religion, gender).
 

The philosophy of the organization is inspired by  United Nations (UN) 17 Sustainable Development Goals

Our Values

 

Accountability:
We are answerable for the decisions we make and the actions we take. We hold accountable to our partners, donors, beneficiaries and other stakeholders by complying to internationally accepted financial management systems and giving them the opportunity to evaluate our performances.  Accountability guarantees a strong reputation of our organisation.


Transparency:
We endeavour to apply the principle of transparency by being open to all our beneficiaries, partners and stakeholders. We believe that transparency will facilitate the development of mutual trust between stakeholders and partners, as well as help us get new opportunities.


Participation:
We involve beneficiaries and other stakeholders in the planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of our projects by promoting participation, active communication, and requesting feedback.


Justice:
We endeavour to be fair to all our people regardless of tribe, religion, race, gender or political affiliation. The principle of justice and human dignity shall always inform all our activities.


Professionalism:
We guarantee professionalism in our endeavours by targeting skilled staff for the implementation of our projects and adhering to values and ethics of high standards. Through our professionalism we wish to achieve the highest quality in our projects.
